Anderson Radio Club Meeting Minutes

Monthly Meeting
4th Thursday / 7:30-…..
200 Bleckley St, Anderson, SC 29625
Date: 8/28/2025
The meeting was called to order by President K4NWX Rich Shalayda.
With the pledge of allegiance to US Flag, Introductions were made for all
attendees.
Minutes from the previous meeting were read by club secretary KQ4AIA
Elaine Ellett and approved.
Treasurer KK4CEW Tom Weir was absent. Anson stepped in to read the
monthly financial report, which was approved.
New club applications were read for Brad Carder, Raymond Brown,
Thomas Quist, and Roger Smith. Motion to accept and seconded.
Approved pending payment of dues within 30 days.
Old Business:

  • Mini Field Day to be held this Saturday. The focus will be on
passing traffic and filling out the ARRL form for traffic. Check-In to
be on 40 meters 7.175-7.178 and Sassafras 2 meters. Net Control
will be located at Wes’s brother-in-law’s farm starting at 10 AM
    and going to 2 PM
    New Business:
  • Sassafras housing for repeaters and other equipment requires
electrical repairs and upgrades. Marion had Durham Electrical
Services, LLC to take a look at it, and the system does not meet
code, and there is a danger of losing equipment and the possibility
of insurance not covering because of the non-code compliance.
    The estimate totaled $1260.00.

Discussion as to whether we should do this with the projected new
housing when the new tower is in place. But that looks to be more
than 1-2 years out. Then it was discussed as to the funding and
which account to use for the funding. A motion was put forth to
have the work done and the funding to be split between the
General Fund and the Repeater Fund so as not to deplete either
fund. It was also said we should acquire a permit to have these
renovations done. This motion was seconded and approved by the
attending club members.

  • Wes has taken care of maintenance on the club trailer with a top
coat on the roof, repacked the wheels, and replaced the tires and
rims. At $244.45. A motion was put forward to reimburse him for
this cost, and this was seconded and approved by the club.
  • Ham Fest will be held on October 11th at Darwin Wright Park. We
    need to start planning.
    Reminders:
  • September 13th State Wide Auxcom Exercise, which will include
Radio gram pass traffic, talk about antenna setup, FM & HF test
and tune. Anson will be emailing everyone. All who are involved in
Auxcom need to be in attendance. Anson will be at the Emergency
Management at 7:30 AM for setup to begin at 8:00 AM. If there
are enough in attendance, we may set up a GOBOX at the old
    Singer plant.
  • Next exam session to be held September 20th at 2 PM.
  • September 27th Dr. Marion McMillian will hold an Emergency
Preparedness Seminar at the Anderson Library starting at 9 AM
    and going to 12 PM
It was brought to the club’s attention that a long-time member was
having some difficulties. Wes had taken groceries to them, and the club
chose to take up a love offering to help and to reimburse Wes. Our club
is a good family! $300 was collected, and I am sure it will be much
    appreciated.
    Had the ticket 50/50 draw.
    The meeting was adjourned.
